Emerald: 2013 Color of the Year
Ah, emerald. It’s a resplendent hue, calling to mind one of the most luxurious gemstones; plus it flatters nearly all skin tones, brings out the best in every eye color, and compliments both feminine and masculine styles. Is it any wonder that Pantone, pre-eminent authority on pigmentation, named it 2013’s Color of the Year?
So what does that mean for fashion? Prepare to see a lot more green – that is, if you haven’t already. Deep green Gucci details began to catch eyes in Fall 2012, and with fantastic pieces following from Oscar de la Renta, Hussein Chalayan, Michael Kors, and Zac Posen, it was an unmistakable fact that Emerald was gaining momentum in the fashion world.
Looking for ways to flaunt that emerald hue? Like we said, it looks great with so many colors. Frame rosy pink, ruby red, or dark wine make-up with a deep green choker or earrings. Add a lush and natural air to neutral browns. Color-block it with cyan or blue for a look that’s at once bright and soothing. Or, play up its rich jewel tone with hints of gold for a look of luxury. But no matter what you do, get ready, for this is a year that will live in Emerald infamy.
